Synopsis
- There are things that you can never throw away.
- There's a difference between what you CAN do and what you WANT to do.
- What comes next?
The Cicada, who seems to have moved into an empty cave, tells his story. In three different scenes, he talks about meaningful dreams and lingering feelings from the past, things he can choose in his current life and their limitations, and a decision that he finally makes.
Director's Comment
In the summer of 2017, while walking down the street, I saw a cicada larva that died without being able to shed its shell. The larva, which became the body of a cicada, was trapped in a shell that should be transparent, and was being eaten by ants. It occurred to me that cicadas, are vaguely known as insects that spent their larva days in the ground and die during the summer, are probably going through more trials than we know. Cicadas that were unable to shed their shells properly, seem to be similar to us who are not able to match our mental, physical, and social ages. Metaphorically we are cicadas living with crumpled wings.
Of course, just because we have an unusual appearance doesn't mean it's abnormal. We are influenced, then altered both physically and mentally through unconscious events. Perhaps cicadas with crumpled wings have in their own way. Like us who couldn’t become perfect adults. I believe the potential success of the cicada's life being frustrated by trivial reasons is not the end.
