What Do I Steal?What Do I Steal?
For independent creators, the commissioned work they call ‘oeju’ often becomes fertile ground for new experimentation and opportunity. Unlike personal projects—which can stretch on indefinitely—commissioned work usually comes with tight production schedules and budgets that vary widely from job to job. Yet it can also be a chance to introduce one's own style to an entirely new audience, a labor-of-love gift for devoted fans, or a testing ground for exploring new technologies. The 2026 Seoul Independent Animation Festival takes a wide-ranging, duruduru look at the latest examples of this work—spanning advertising, music videos, online game IP, and projects that actively embrace AI.

Voice Actor UM SanghyunHe received his Master’s in theater from the Graduate School of Chung-Ang University and debuted as a voice actor in EBS’s 17th open recruitment. As the lead voice actor in numerous feature length animations such as [Bread Barber Shop], [Cloudy with a Chance of Meat Balls], and [Kung Fu Panda], he has become a familiar voice among audiences. He also participated in a number of independent animations: [Battle of Guitar](2009); [14 Beat](2009); [Knock, Knock, Knock, Good Morning, I’m an Angel](2012); [Cats Are All Around in Our Mind](2014); [Buckwheat Flower, A Lucky Day and Spring](2014); and [Clearer Than You Think](2014).

Animation Director LEE HyejeongAfter studying graphic design, she founded TVCM and turned her passion into her career, exploring diverse methods and areas. Her work as an independent animation director began with her film [GoingWell..] made as part of the Korea Creative Content Agency’s Creative Talent Program. Currently, she is working in the commercial industry while making her next short film.
