Synopsis

A young cockroach left alone in the house where an elderly woman lives alone. He struggles to live, but the most unbearable thing is loneliness. One day, the cockroach realizes that the elderly woman’s loneliness is the same as his. Even though he shouldn’t be noticed, the cockroach thinks he would like to eat with a lonely elderly woman.

Director's Comment

Only the speed differs from country to country, and many countries around the world are heading for an aging society. This problem has become a familiar part of our lives. Moreover, compared to concerns about material livelihoods, the emotional well-being of the elderly often goes unnoticed in society. [Eat with] began with this background. The young cockroach, the main character, suddenly gets to share the life of the old woman living alone. Through him, we aim to shed light indirectly the loneliness of the elderly living alone. The house of the old woman living alone over the age of 80 is severely regular and still. We hoped to give an experience where the audience could feel the emptiness together and share the sense of loneliness with each other.

Detailed description

The abandoned cockroach and old man live together in silence. They try to both hide and observe each other. Their relationship makes us quietly contemplate the meaning of the word “together.” There is waiting without end and the feeling of loneliness in the empty seat. When we look into the expressionless faces, someone suddenly comes to mind. The two characters may seem cruel, but they’re also warm and somehow comforting to us. In a lonely and uncaring existence, there are small moments of empathy that quietly leave a lingering echo.
