Synopsis

A little asteroid lives his life orbiting the same exact path everyday. One day, he dreams of becoming a comet and hatches a risky plan to escape his orbit through Jupiter's gravity. As the cycle of Jupiter's approach draws near, the other asteroids feel fear.. Can this little asteroid break free from its orbit and become a comet?

Director's Comment

[Departure] is a story about a small, ordinary asteroid venturing from its mundane life into a new and unknown world. Through this film, I hope to inspire and give hope to everyone who seeks their own dreams and takes steps to achieve them, even amidst the ordinariness of everyday life.

Detailed description

Asteroids in film media often appear as agents and objects of destruction in the genres of epic space operas and cosmic disaster movies. This animation probably didn’t intend to upend any of those stereotypes. However, it personified the asteroids and built a society around them. The mere lumps of rock drifting through space were each imbued with personality. Still, we haven’t forgotten about either their natural role or the greatest gift they have to offer in the universe.
