Synopsis

A woman unexpectedly meets her childhood best friend, torn between rekindling their bond or letting the moment fade away.

Director's Comment

[Passing By] is a story about the courage to face loss. Two girls who were once childhood best friends drifted apart over a small, long-forgotten reason and became strangers to each other. Years later, they cross paths by chance at the same train platform and end up boarding the same train. But where they’ll get off—or whether their paths will ever cross again—is something neither of them can know. Maybe every connection in life is like sharing a train ride for a little while. Eventually, the time comes to let the other person step off and continue their journey without you. We might wish we could stay together a bit longer, but part of growing up is learning that life rarely goes the way we want it to. When we face loss and let go of the urge to hold on to what’s already passed, we begin to take small steps toward adulthood.

Detailed description

It might be a story that belongs to all of us, like leafing through an old childhood diary. What was once our whole world has become just a memory. When I take them out for a glimpse, there are shining, painful, and even cruel memories. This animation quietly shows us the afterimage of our past emotions. We all have a memory that we have forgotten. The colors and designs make the dimness more clear, as if gently bumping into a forgotten feeling.
