Synopsis

Death. The moment everyone could be treated equally. 100 years of memory from a Korean woman.

   "A beautiful day" is about a life of Korean woman who takes back to the past her journey from the moment she passes away. The past memory of the woman is portrayed through her eyes about the life.
   Memories of the old women, who has been living for about a century, is implied her personal life and symbolized Korean turbulent history such as the Japanese colonial period, Korean War and starvation at the same time.
 
    * At the traditional Korean funeral, the old lady’s soul was guided by the Kokdu to the past of her life. The Kokdu has accompanied the deceased woman's soul throughout her journey with care and protection. ( *“Kokdu” is Wooden puppet that joins the deceased’s journey from this world to other world) 

Director's Comment

A beautiful day has been created by asking a question. “What is the next stage after my grandmother’s death when she has passed away?
The life of the old lady, who has been living for about a century, is implied her personal life and symbolized Korean turbulent history from the Japanese colonial period and Korean War to the present at the same time
I wish she could have a beautiful and peaceful day when she takes the journey on her last day.
The fundamental story of this animation stems from reincarnation from oriental perspective. This may imply that the death is not only the end of our life.
Regarding animation technique here, this film has been used various skills of sand animation and paint-on-glass techniques.
