[To the Mars and Back] interweaves events from the present, past, and imaginative future. The film reflects the human effort and hope for survival in the midst of scientific progress and silent conflict.

Detailed description

An organism that looks like it is wearing a thick coat is swimming in the petri dish under the microscope. It’s a tardigrade, or water bear, which has no eyes or nose, only a mouth that looks like a plastic cap. Its strange appearance looks alien, but it is a creature from Earth. Its body looks like it is wrapped in a protective suit, and the human watching the nuclear test through a telescope seems no different. However, the water bear can endure radiation levels a thousand times what would kill a human. Perhaps human beings ought to stop destroying the Earth and leave for Mars instead.
