Synopsis

I have been forced to become more aware of the country and its borders than I have ever been before. In the midst of these days,I took a walk with my 0-year-old daughter and wondered what she was feeling as she saw different landscapes for the first time.I imagined a world where I existed and my loved ones did not. I imagined a world with loved ones and without me. One day, such a world will surely come.I want to be the landscape of my loved ones.

Program Note

Suzanne Alaywan’s poem, which appears in Arabic, English, and Japanese, tells of a woman who searches the faces of others for the face of a single man. There is a list of quotes from the likes of John Ruskin to Max Ernst, including not only poets and novelists but also philosophers, painters, comic artists, and even words scrawled on walls. The film carries on with bits of expressions gathered from everywhere, which seem to be both a match and mismatch with the images before us. The viewer’s knowledge and experience is sure to impact their viewing experience, as part of the director’s intention. What are we searching for among the pieces placed side by side? Perhaps it is the unknowable within ourselves. LEE Kyunghwa
