A girl opens her eyes. She has her hands over her ears in a field of tall grass. The extreme details in the image draw us into the screen. Every tiny hair on her skin can be seen. The girl takes a walk down memory lane—a run-down bus stop, a corner store full of toys and memories, a bookstore displaying old magazines and picture books, and a carpenter’s shop full of all manner of knick knacks. An otter follows her in an irresistibly cuddly way. It has been twelve years since the Japanese otter was declared to be extinct. What can humans protect if not even this innocent thing? A heart full of worries calls out the name of a creature that has disappeared. LEE Kyunghwa
