Program Note
Rose rash is a respiratory infection resulting in fever and rash. It usually occurs in young children between six months and three years old. A tall tree is encircled by naked children stepping together like forest spirits. Coming together in a group that might all be versions of the same person, they go around the forest looking for insects that live on sturdy stems and flowering vines, and tadpoles turning into frogs in the streams. The watercolor images are matched with mechanical sounds that bring to mind a patient’s monitoring device. The reverberating sound makes us mindful of death while also evoking life. LEE Kyunghwa
