Synopsis

Against a background of disordered black lines, two hands appear and begin to speak to us. The artist's voice accompanies this gestural theatre. Two other hands then emerge, crushing the last sequence into a mise en abyme effect, reduced to a stain, which leaves a living imprint, like a shadow. The hands alternate between concealing and revealing our vision, from which emerges the light of day. Color bursts into the sky, which is covered by clouds dotted with raindrops. After the rain, the black ignites, point by point, at the touch of the fingers. A hand, running along an unknown path, falls, releasing the hidden colors from its shadow. There, between dream and revelation, we dive into the portrait, both destructive and restorative, of the two hands.

Director's Comment

Hands speak. Despite the diversity of languages, even within sign language, our hands sketch our thoughts and reveal our souls. The negative hands of thirty thousand years ago carry a message of love, while the positive hands guide us along the path forward for the next thirty thousand years. In the grand cycle of our world—where the sun whitens the sky, rain polishes the earth, night lights up the stars, and shadow is born from light—the time has come to rise and restore life's balance. Liberated by our bipedalism, our empty hands become creators. My two ten-fingered actors tell a story: one of gestures, contrasts, and alliances, a story of duality seeking unity.

Program Note

This experimental animation uses the nuanced and delicate movements of ambidexterity to explore the boundaries of the human senses and perception. Through the rhythm of sign language, the film invites the audience into deep thought. The hand gestures against the chaotic black background change familiar motions into unfamiliar ones. The simplest movements hide profound meanings with many layers presented through visual experimentation.
