Synopsis

Na-yoon, a designer working in Paju Book City, is in the middle of a custody dispute. As the deadline for a book cover design approaches, she returns to Suncheon, where she used to live, to watch migratory birds once again.

Director's Comment

Everyone experiences nostalgia, longing to revisit cherished memories, but it's impossible. Whether good or bad, the past remains out of reach, and we can only move forward toward a better future. Through this film, I wanted to encourage those on that journey.

Program Note

SEO Pyoungwon’s [Doraeji] deals with the theme of returning home, but it goes beyond a story of a simple homecoming and explores the meaning of “a place where we can reside.” This is something that people instinctively long for. The spark that blooms in the cracks of everyday life and the natural flow of emotions are things that the director has always explored. The spreading light and tranquil colors illuminate the inner minds of the characters, and even ordinary landscapes are covered with emotional textures. The scenes capture even the sound of time and carefully guide the audience, leading them to confront the deep essence of their hearts. [Doraeji] embraces us like a low-circling flock of birds, transporting us to our own ”doraeji,” our own place of arrival residing deep within ourselves.
