Program Note

Strange, unidentifiable creatures awaken in a void-like darkness, and the film begins to weave together fragments of the human interior. Through the contorted gestures and organic movements of beings that imperfectly mimic human form, the director offers a visual metaphor for the abstract inner world and psychology of humanity. The vivid, tactile textures achieved through stop-motion combine with the creatures' irregular movements to evoke both the grotesque and the mysterious. With the uncanny rhythms of these unclassifiable beings, the film delivers a visual jolt — and brings the viewer face to face with the abyss beneath the surface.
