Synopsis

Land of No Man is carefully crafted in 3D, with occasional mixed-media elements created through stop-motion animation. The story unfolds like a children's book as it follows a loner Capybara goes about his daily life with his favorite friend, Mister Tangerine. Until one day, a series of passing animals interrupts his routine with the same question: “Aren’t you lonely?”

Program Note

The question of profound loneliness packed into a runtime of around four minutes hits all the harder because its protagonist is a capybara — and because what the capybara has lost is a tangerine. A story of quiet, matter-of-fact loneliness, carried within charming movements that make the adorable characters and settings shine even brighter, ultimately resolves into one clear, simple question: ""Aren't you lonely?"" Where does the capybara go in the end? A short and lovely poem of a film, written in the language of solitude.
