Program Note

Emergency! An urgent call to action. Grunting and squeezing into a wetsuit, pulling on goggles, strapping on an oxygen tank, and plunging into the water. With each stroke deeper in, something approaches — the small, ordinary objects of everyday life. ""Ah, an environmental campaign warning about ocean waste!"" — but one shouldn't jump to conclusions. As photographs from a wallet come spilling out — ""Aha, a story about the depths of memory!"" — but one shouldn't be too hasty. As things grow increasingly tangled and turbulent — ""So it was about the unconscious all along!"" — but one shouldn't presume. Any further would risk spoilers, so we'll stop here. What we can say is that it deals with a situation all too recognizable — one we may well have lived through ourselves. Truly an urgent matter, indeed.
