Something is not quite right with this child. He rolls around in fits at all hours, and repeats certain behaviors with compulsive insistence. At first it seems the child is the problem — but watching closely over time, something in his relationship with his mother begins to raise suspicion. Even so, it would be a mistake to think this film amounts to little more than a parenting solution in the vein of a child behavior program, or a guide to becoming a better parent. Like a doctor calmly describing a situation from the perspective of an observer, a composed and patient gaze — rather than a hasty diagnosis — is held within a stop-motion execution of a distinctly elevated order. Chen Xi, a familiar face at Seoul Indie-AniFest, returns this time bearing the gift of what can only be called adult maturity.
