Synopsis

Amid an ordinary, tranquil journey, thoughts drift, weaving between the scenery and fragmented memories. It’s feeling like a continuous dream flowing through fleeting, enigmatic moments of life.

[Fly Train] explores shadow play and experimental visuals to present a visual journey about time and memory. By transforming the silhouettes of everyday objects into surreal imagery, the film plunges into a poetic stream of consciousness. The interplay of light and shadow shifts from tangible scenes to philosophical reflections on confronting fading memories and the relentless passage of time.

As the wheels turn, the film's wandering imagery invites viewers not to seek a destination or memory's meaning, but to immerse themselves in the flickering ambiance - finding solace in the flow of frames, where personal resonance glimmers.

Program Note

Light and darkness, flickering ceaselessly. It is a phenomenon we encounter in daily life without a second thought — a train cutting through a tunnel (or a night train), and a cinema. [Fly Train] moves naturally between these two spaces. In the mere alternation of light and dark, a sense of rhythm emerges. In the simple repetition of form, we experience speed. When abstract and figurative images unfold in turn, we feel ourselves heading somewhere at once familiar and strange. That is why the sudden appearance of a fly in the midst of this headlong rush is such a welcome surprise. Like the butterfly in Zhuangzi's dream, we move alongside the fly through reality and illusion, and through memory.
