Synopsis

A woman passes into death and journeys through five realms, each shaped by a single sense. There, she meets five gods who, before reclaiming the senses she was given in life, grant her one final gift: a chance to feel, once more, the moments she most longs to experience through each of them.

Director's Comment

It is said that at the moment of death, our five senses do not vanish all at once — instead, in that final instant, we lose them one by one, in this order: sight, taste, smell, touch, and hearing. This film began with a simple question that grew out of that idea: before each sense disappears, what would we most want to feel one last time? What is the last thing you would want to see, to taste, to smell, to touch, to hear, before you die?

Program Note

Drawing on Mozart's Requiem, the director interprets death not as an ending, but as a sensory passage into a renewed way of seeing the world. The film follows a woman unafraid of death, reminiscent of Joan of Arc, as she moves through five worlds she encounters after dying. The questions posed and the moments of choice within each world push us past the fear of death, prompting us to reconsider the meaning of life and suffering, sacrifice and salvation. The film expands the mourning and redemption at the heart of the Requiem through religious and literary imagination, drawing us further into its world through striking imagery and symbolic composition.
