Program Note

A bus is a peculiar kind of space. It's a miniature version of modern society itself — pressed physically close to strangers, yet thoroughly distant from them. Set against the backdrop of this strange, shared public space, this film captures a crowd of figures, each hunched over their own hidden desires, through a small commotion sparked by nothing more than an empty can. What makes this film exceptional is its exaggerated character performance, which treats an everyday conflict as though it were a monumental event. The tangled, colliding excess of energy elevates even the characters' instinctively concealed ugly impulses into humorous satire.
