Synopsis

The story begins as a single match lights up the darkness and fades away. It is a tale from long ago, when a pristine flower bloomed upon meeting a beloved. After the pristine flower left, leaving only a circle in life, rough waves rushed in to push life away. Yet, those were days of trying never to give up. Doldol, the dog who brightly lit the path, also slipped away like a white light, leaving a little bird (the daughter) behind. This is an inner story of wanting to hold onto the bird, yet wishing for it to fly far, far away. A record of sorrow and love, etched across 1,218 charcoal drawings.

Program Note

Woven together in charcoal drawing, this film addresses life and loss, quietly tracing the healing that unfolds between them. Its rhythm draws black-and-white instants into the grain of moving time, and combined with the rough texture of charcoal filling the frame, gives sensory form to the pulse of life. The lines and planes born from the artist's hand carry both an urgent will to keep life from being swept away, and a contemplative gaze upon the world. In the space left by narrative restraint, the film reaches the audience's deepest places through honest observation alone, without flourish — transforming the universal loss of farewell into a landscape of life itself.
