Program Note
A pig has killed a man. The film opens by replaying that murder, suspense first. Bold contrast and color in a 1960s comic-book art style mesh with a desolate ambience to heighten the tension even further. Following our depressed, working-class pig protagonist, we're eventually brought face to face with an unremarkable tragedy laid out on a dinner table. Especially striking is the film's use of inserts that slowly, steadily tighten their grip around your throat.
