Synopsis

On a night in the grasslands, a lamb wearing a red bell runs into a shepherds’ hut. Following it inside, Su discovers a world that looks like paradise—vast green fields where lambs rest and play. Yet beneath the beauty lies a strange and cruel order in which lambs become nourishment for one another. Su rescues his lamb just before it is offered to a great tree and escapes. But the lamb, unable to forget the beautiful world, runs back toward it. Though heartbroken, Su follows once more to save it.

Program Note

In The Little Prince, the fox says that to tame something is to become, for one another, one of a kind. But that only holds true when you and I want to look at the same world and see the same thing. I don't want to lose my little lamb. And yet, in the end, I will — whether it's love, or trust, or you, some other person I can never fully understand. This film renders that small, aching sorrow — exhausted, yet not quite ready to give up — with both beauty and sadness.
