Synopsis

Whenever Hyunji looks at B, her heart balloon lifts a little higher. The red sneakers on the dull classroom floor, the brightness in his smile, the confidence and energy he carries, and even his tender love for animals—all of it adds a little more warmth to her day. As graduation approaches, Hyunji finally decides to write a letter written from the heart. Will this love ever come true?

Director's Comment

A stop-motion short film that carries the message, “It’s okay for your dream not to come true.” About how the experiences and emotions we gather along the way shape who we become. We hope this film brings gentle comfort to those who have been hurt by an unfulfilled dream, or who are afraid it may never come true — a gentle piece that embraces such hearts.

Program Note

Down the staircase within a love letter written all through the night, and into a dance with the boy she secretly loves — such innocent, tender feeling. This film unpacks the emotion of first love, unspoken and unrequited, with honesty and charm through paper stop-motion. Especially striking is the scene where the protagonist cuts away paper hair with a pair of scissors. Like the ache of a wisdom tooth coming in, the feelings of that time are revived, wistful and hazy, through the very texture of the paper — much like a Polaroid photograph.
