Synopsis

Loneliness, solitude, sorrow. The emotions that isolate us interact deeply with those who feel them. Seized by such feelings, a child named Koo sinks into the depths of a pond — and there encounters a koi that has grown by feeding on Koo's emotions.

Director's Comment

I wanted to show the love between an emotion and the person who feels it. The emotions that isolate us are beautiful and alluring in their own right — yet in a single moment they can pull us under and leave us unable to breathe. And they appear before us in the most enchanting of forms. Whatever shape they take, they make it impossible for us not to love them. This is Koo's story, and it is the story of us all.

Hoping to offer the audience images of true beauty, I worked with a wide range of techniques — sewing by hand, painting, and digital graphics — trying to capture people's hearts in every way I could. Just as the koi that swallowed Koo's emotions approaches Koo in a form of irresistible beauty, I wanted to meet the audience in a form just as beautiful and alluring.
