Synopsis
Dudu, a parrot-loving cartoonist, keeps going on passion alone, despite having vague talent and no real achievements to speak of. The moment he hears about his 23rd competition rejection, flowers of anxiety called Furai bloom all over his room. Cute in appearance but anything but in attitude, Furai grows increasingly grotesque, about to swallow Dudu whole. Just then, from an unfinished manuscript, a Moran Fairy suddenly pops out…
Director's Comment
[Furai, Furai!] is a story reconstructed from an experience I went through last year. It began with a period in which, as a creator, I felt overwhelmed by reality and sank endlessly into self-deprecation and anxiety in the face of what I perceived as my own ambiguous talent. Even so, a year later, I chose to confront that anxiety again by turning it into a character and translating it into animation. Why do we continue to walk this path? Through this work, I wanted to convey the feeling that simply asking the question, “Does this have any meaning?”, might already hold meaning in itself.

Program Note
Perhaps the greatest pain a young creator faces is not being able to be sure of anything. Huraihurai gives that uncertainty a visible, tangible form. Rather than speaking of anxiety in heavy terms, the film absorbs it through cuteness, and that light touch comes across as one way this younger generation gets through anxiety at all. Here, cuteness isn't a device for looking away from reality — it becomes a way of overcoming it.
