Selection Committee of Independent Walk
JEON Seungbae is a creative artist and the CEO and director of Toyville. He received his MFA in Animation from Chung-Ang University Cheomdan Graduate School of Film. He has made numerous animated commercials, but his passion is creating his own independent animations. He has entertained audiences with his animated films including
, , and .
JEON has received numerous awards including the Excellence Award from the 2009 SBS Animation Awards, the 2009 Web Animation Festival Grand Prize and Netizen Award, the 2009 Xiamen International Animation Festival Award for Best Overseas Animated Short Film, the 2009 Hida International Animation Festival Children’s Jury Prize, and the Best Short Animation Award from the 2015 Korean Film Festival in Paris.
He is currently working on the short animation, a story about the noise between the floors of a building. -
SONG Shihyeong
Selection Committee of Independent Walk
SONG Shihyeong is a professor at the International Cyber University’s Entertainment Department. He was a member of the Indie-AniFest executive committee, a researcher at the Institute of Korean Local Culture and Contents, and general affairs director of the Korean Association of Converging Humanities. He has been a jury member for the Korean Film Council [2016 Animation Screenplay Competition] and the Indie-AniFest 2013 KIAFA Special Prize. He was also a member of the research task force for film and animation curriculum development for the Seoul Education Office Happiness School, Culture and Art Education Agency. He received a PhD in cultural sociology from Korea University.

MO Eun-young

MO Eun-young is a festival programmer for Indie-AniFest 2017. She was a former programmer at the 3rd Environment Film Festival and Indie Forum Authors’ Meeting. She completed her PhD in animation at Chung-Ang University Graduate School of Art and Technology.

Jinny H.J. CHOO
Selection Committee of First Flight
Jinny H.J. CHOO is an animation and media artist and film festival programmer. She majored in animation and illustration, and she is an adjunct professor at Korea National University of Arts School of Film, TV & Multimedia. Beginning with the Puchon International Student Animation Festival in 2000, she has worked as a programmer and director at various international festivals including the Seoul International Cartoon Animation Festival, Gwacheon SF Film Festival, Siggraph Asia Computer Animation Festival, and Indie-AniFest. Since 2010, she has conducted animation therapy workshops for children and teenagers at HanKum Counseling Psychology Center where she studies the potential of utilizing animation in integrated art therapy.

CHOI Yujin

CHOI Yujin is the director of the Indie-AniFest executive committee. She studied history and cultural studies, and she began working at the Korean Independent Animation Filmmakers’ Association in 2006. She works in diverse spheres by organizing the animation festival, screenings, and distribution of animated films.

RAH Jung-in studied animation at the Korean Academy of Film Arts. She made the short animations

NAH Ho-won
Selection Committee of ASIA ROAD
NAH Ho-won is an animation researcher and visiting professor at the Konkuk University Department of Film and Animation. He received an MFA in experimental animation from CalArts in the USA and received an MA in animation theory from the Royal College of Art in London. He is currently completing a PhD in animation theory at Loughborough University in the UK. He gives lectures on animation to young animation directors at universities. He made the animated short films
(DV 6 mm, toilet paper, 1999) and (16 mm, stop motion, 2004). He has written criticism on films and comics, and he is the author of the Korean translations of Kit Laybourne's and Olivier Cotte's . -
LEE Kyung-hwa

LEE Kyung-hwa studied animation and worked for many years as an animator for studios and outsourced productions. She has worked in the film festival team for the Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival (2008-2015), the program team for the Busan International Film Festival (2008), and the Indie-AniFest executive committee (2009-2010). In 2012, she made the short animation
. In 2013, she published the Seoul Animators magazine (seoulanimators.com) which introduces animation filmmakers and their work to readers. In 2016, she worked as the program coordinator for the Asia Road Competition at Indie-AniFest. -

Dennis TUPICOFF
Jury of ASIA ROAD
After graduating from Queensland University, Dennis worked as an archivist and teacher before making his first film in 1976. He has made many award-winning films as writer, director, producer, and animator. These have been fictional and documentary, animated and live-action, comedy and drama – and often inventive combinations. Dennis has also been a full-time lecturer at the VCA School of Film and Television in Melbourne, and has taught and conducted workshops in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. Retrospectives of his work have screened at festivals in Brisbane (2008), Kecskemet (2009), Krakow (2009) and Poznan (2010).

LEE Moon-joo

LEE Moon-joo graduated from the Department of Painting at Hongik University. She graduated as a master student at Kassel Art University in Germany where she studied animation with Paul Driessen and Andreas Hykade. She is the director of short animations such as
, , , , , and which have competed and received invitations to numerous international animation festivals including Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film, Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Animafest Zagreb, and London International Animation Festival. She received the Korean Cartoon Culture Award in 1996 and Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival’s Character Award and Music Award in 1997. Her work was selected as an outstanding film by the Film Appraisal Committee of Germany in 2007 and recognized as Animation of the Year in Germany in 2008. She received the Special Jury Prize from the Imago Film Festival in Portugal in 2009 and the Best Korean Film Award from the Seoul Guro International Kids Film Festival in 2017. She is currently an adjunct professor at the School of Animation at ChungKang College of Cultural Industries. -
LEE Yong-baeJury of ASIA ROADLEE Yong-bae graduated from the Department of Landscape Architecture at Seoul National University, the first class of the Korean Academy of Film Arts, and the Graduate School of Culture at Sungkonghoe University. He was the director of planning at the animation studio Seoul Movie and worked at Studio Sonagi and Jcom animation team. He is currently a professor in the Department of Animation at Kaywon University of Art & Design.1990

Nina SABNANI

Nina SABNANI is an artist and storyteller who uses film, illustration and writing to tell her stories. Graduating from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Vadodara she received a master's degree in film from Syracuse University, NY, which she pursued as a Fulbright Fellow. Nina's research interests include exploring the dynamics between words and images in storytelling. Her work in film and illustrated books, seeks to bring together animation and ethnography. Nina is currently Professor at the Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay. Her films include

KIM Hyunjoo

After graduating from Seoul National University with a major in business administration, she started to study visual graphic design at Kookmin University. She made two short animated films at graduation course in Korea National University of Arts in 2003. She became the Presidential prize winner in the first film,
. Her second film, was selected at Annecy 2004, Clermont-Ferrand 2005, etc. and acclaimed internationally. Her graduation film was made to TV series with 13 episodes which she directed by herself, airing on EBS. She wrote and illustrated children's storybooks as well. Main character Hyunjuri, who always appears in her works, is her autobiographical heroine. In 2016, the feature film, directed by herself was released in Korea. -
KIM Seyoon

KIM Seyoon was a journalist for the monthly film magazine
and weekly film magazine and has written for the TV program on MBC TV and the radio show on MBC FM. Since 2001, he has aired weekly film reviews on various radio programs. He currently appears on and on MBC FM and on TBS FM. He is also a film columnist who has reviewed new releases in the weekly magazine since its first issue. KIM was the programmer of the 20th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
