Synopsis
What doesdivorce mean to women in Korea’s patriarchal society? Is a fatherless family afailure? In order to find the answer to the questions, a single mother and herdaughter start a conversation.
Director's Comment
I grew up in a single-mother householdwithout a father in Korea’s patriarchal society. This has been my secretidentity. My mother’s biggest secret is being without ahusband. She has disciplined me to keep this a secret for our own protection.This year I turned 34, and my mother was 35 when she gave birth to me. Iimagine the time when she raised me alone. Are all the anxieties, worries andconcerns of single mothers, raising their kids alone, only personal issues? Toshed a light on it, I illustrated the anxiety and the discomfort in this filmthat my mother and I have borne, portraying us as the animal characters of thetiger and ox and tracing the emotional journey of the past with ourconversation.
