Synopsis

Jesa is aKorean tradition honoring people’s ancestors. The filmmaker interviewed herparents about this ritual tradition of Korea. However, things don’t go asexpected.

In Korean society, the mostconservative fields are not related to North Korea or issues of sexuality, butrather family discourse.

Every year, families come togetherfor traditional celebrations or ancestral rites, and they argue incessantly.But they always gather again. In the news, there are always voices crying outfor change, but our own families never seem any different. Jesa is a nonfictionanimation that questions the idea of Korean authenticity. Through the processof making a stop-motion animation, I sought to redefine and reclaim ourtraditions as a woman.
