Synopsis

In the Joseon era, a monster is freed from its chains. A foolish and ambitious scholar makes a mistake which causes his wife and daughter to be chained in the monster’s place. As the years pass, the scholar turns into a monster himself. He eventually rescues his wife and daughter and takes their place in chains, belatedly realizing that he had missed the small, mundane joys of everyday life.

Director's Comment

Fame and success, wealth and prestige, and the desire to fulfill one’s own purpose can lead us to become monsters and ignore the sacrifices and sincerity of others. I wanted to reflect this with the classic feel of puppet animation using hand-crafted dolls and miniature backgrounds.
