Synopsis

Yellow is an experimental video artnarrative that follows the travels a Korean Canadian woman who visits TheGambia. Themes of racialization, nationality and world events are explored.

Director's Comment

Yellow is the third installment of the Primary Coloursseries which also includes experimental narratives Red and Blue. All threefilms are experimental animations that reveal various reflections andperceptions of identity through my own storytelling. Themes of racialization, memories, land and belonging are brought up in each work. Yellow specificallyuses rotoscope animation, photographs and videos to explore my identity as aqueer second-generation Korean Canadian woman. The film follows my journey in TheGambia, a small country in West Africa, through my experiences of beingracialized, feelings of otherness and hearing about the terrorist attack in NewZealand. Yellow reveals various reflections and perceptions of identity throughmy own storytelling.
